Your child treated 'unfairly' by a coach? Compare: the P.Diddy approach vs. the Doc Rivers approach

Hope you're having a great week , it's a great time to start making winning your habit!
Compare the sports parenting styles:
P. Diddy vs. Doc Rivers
I was struck by the stark difference in responses by two prominent names when their kid was treated 'unfairly' by a sports coach.

P. Diddy, whose son plays football for UCLA, aggressively confronted the coaches and the situation escalated to a physical fight, read the story here

Doc Rivers, whose son is a high school basketball player, asked his Dad to talk to the coach about playing time, watch the 1 minute response by Doc here

Doc's simple response is filled with so many truths:
  • Coaches want to win.  If you are not happy with your playing time - make yourself so valuable as a player that the coach will want to play you more.
  • Kids need to learn how to fight for what they get, and earn it.
  • I am not going to rob you of your chance to fight for something by going to talk to your coach.
  • As a parent, I support you and know you can do it, but you have to work for it.
