Week 2 in our anti-entitlement experiment on our lacrosse team

Yesterday we rolled out 4 different roles for the kids to choose from to take ownership of our team. There were:
  1. Team energizers, relay races, and pressure cooker shot reward
  2. Field set-up and clean up, and leading dynamic warm-ups
  3. Quantifying improvement in practices
  4. Creating game-like scenarios to be used in practice
We had 20 players, so there are 5 kids in each group.

Their assignment is to brainstorm and challenge how we do all of these activities, as well as take responsibility for their respective area.

Some of the areas I gave them assistance, such as for the team energizers I gave them the list of 30+ ideas I have been collecting over the past year. But I also gave them free reign to make any changes they deemed appropriate to improve the activity.

We are excited as a coaching staff to see how this plays out over the next 3 weeks of our fall practices, and then incorporate what we learn as we prepare for spring practices.

It definitely could lead to some things falling through the cracks. We not might appear to be a well-oiled machine. But we are going to grind through this sports experience and the experience of building a new program together, and we will be stronger and close because of this.

Great captain training curriculum
I don't endorse many products, but the biggest no-brainer of a product I believe in is the curriculum Adam and his team have developed at Lead 'Em Up.
